Wait until you hear about today's advent adventure! Ella has been talking about this activity since we pulled her brand-new skates out of storage a few weeks ago. Last year for Christmas Adam gave Ella and me ice skates, but we never got a chance to use them. Plus, I think she was a bit too small.
This year, she had big ideas about what she would do once she got on the ice. She rambled on about putting her leg up in the air and skating 'really really fast'. Can anyone guess how either of those turned out? :D
After lunch, I packed up Harrison and took him to Nan's and Pops' house for his nap. When I got back home, Ella was all ready to go skating. She had her Dora backpack stuffed with her teddy and her blankie. I'm not sure why she was bringing these guys along.
Although she refused to pose for me, here is Ella just before we left for the rink.
Ella was a little concerned this morning because there was no snow outside; she wasn't sure where she would skate without any snow! Oh Ella. She was happy to find out that she would be skating in the same arena where Daddy and Pops play hockey.
After we all got laced up, we finally made it onto the ice.
Apparently, it was a bit tricky for Ella to stand still on her new skates. Also, notice the skirt? She can't leave the house without it.
Eventually, they got going again. I tried to hold her and skate with her for awhile, but my abilities aren't quite what they used to be! I had to resume camera duty.
After awhile, Ella started to get a bit sturdier. She didn't flail her legs as much and she even told us she was having fun!
The highlight of the skating experience was when I realized why Ella kept sliding all over the place...
...because she was trying to put one leg up behind her. In the figure skating world, I believe this would be called a spiral.
After about 30 minutes on the ice, we packed up and headed home.
Since Ella missed her nap today, she was very happy to lay down with her buzzy bee and watch a Christmas movie.
